The confluence of the Vjosa and the Shushices Rivers on the costal plains. The area of Selenicë has deposits of high quality bitumen, petroleum and gas. In antiquity these combustibles fed the Oracle of Eternal Fire, and an important place of pilgrimage associated to cults of the Nymphs. Inhabited by Illyrians prior to the Greek's founding the city of Apollonia in the 7th century B.C. the extraction of these resources is still of importance to the local economy.
